Built for everyone.
This is your village website, and everyone in Gilberts deserves to use it with ease — no matter how they get online.
The Village of Gilberts works to keep this website usable for every resident, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard most government sites follow.
What that means
WCAG 2.1 AA is a checklist of things that make a website easier to use for everyone. Here is what we build toward:
- Keyboard navigation. You can reach and use every link, button, and form using only a keyboard — no mouse needed.
- Strong color contrast. Text stands out clearly against its background so it stays easy to read.
- Alt text on images. Photos and icons carry written descriptions so screen readers can announce them.
- Captions on video. Meeting videos and other clips include captions for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Clear structure. Headings, labels, and links are written plainly so the page is simple to follow.
An ongoing effort
Accessibility is never finished. As we add pages and features, we test them and fix what falls short. We also rely on residents to tell us when something does not work — your feedback makes the site better for the whole village.
Found a barrier? Tell us.
If any part of this website is hard to use, please let us know. Share the page address and a short note about the problem, and we will work to fix it and help you get what you need in the meantime.
