Sunsets over the water.
Some of the best evenings in Gilberts cost nothing. When the sun drops behind the prairie, the ponds light up orange and pink — and half the village seems to be out walking the trails to watch it.

Gilberts grew up on open Kane County prairie, and that big sky is still one of the best things about living here. Walking paths wind past the village's ponds, where neighbors fish, push strollers, and stop to take a photo of a sunset that looks different every night.
All four park ponds are stocked twice a year with bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish — so bring a rod. The trails connect parks and neighborhoods, making it easy to get outside without getting in the car.
It's the kind of small, ordinary beauty that makes people stay. Pack a blanket, find a bench by the water, and watch the prairie do its thing.
