Village Code
The Village Code is the full set of laws that govern Gilberts — zoning, building, parking, animals, business rules, and more. It's published online and kept current.
What's in the Code
The Code is organized by topic so you can find the rule you need. It covers areas like:
- Zoning and land use — what can be built where
- Building and property maintenance standards
- Parking, traffic, and snow rules
- Animals, nuisances, and yard upkeep
- Business licensing and liquor rules
- Water, sewer, and utility regulations
Reading the Code online
The Village publishes its Code through Municode, a free public library used by towns across the country. You can search by keyword, browse by chapter, and link straight to a specific section. It's updated whenever the Board passes a new ordinance.
Reading the Code is a great first step, but it isn't legal advice. If you're planning a project or a business, call Community Development to confirm how the rules apply to your property.
